Let&#8217;s take a look at what makes this way of experiencing local areas the future of the sector, how it differs from sustainable and experiential tourism, and why small villages deserve a place of honour in the itineraries of people who love to take trips that leave their mark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Local tourism: what it is<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Local tourism is not a passing trend, but a movement rooted in the awareness that it is necessary to promote local resources. Rather than travelling miles away in search of exotic adventures, local tourism invites those who love to travel to discover the hidden gems of the areas close to their region or those nearby. All three types of tourism are similar and complementary because they describe a different way of travelling from the usual. However, there are some differences that we will briefly examine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Proximity tourism and sustainable tourism<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>While sustainable tourism aims to minimise the environmental and social impact of travel, proximity tourism goes further, focusing on the enhancement of local resources and the empowerment of communities. It minimises intrusiveness and overconsumption, promoting instead respectful interaction with the local area and direct support for local economies. In other words, if you choose to take a trip close to home in line with the principles of local tourism, you will also be taking a trip that is sustainable for the environment and for the communities that live in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Local tourism and experiential tourism<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A similar argument applies to experiential tourism, which can coincide with local tourism if it focuses on local and conscious experiences, but in other cases can go beyond geographical boundaries in search of unique experiences.
